Manual handling train the handler courses

Manual handling training can be provided for your staff to enable them to gain a better understanding of:

  • The dangers of manual handling

  • Why staff should take an interest in safe lifting - what is in it for them

  • The hierarchy of control methods (i.e. the use of mechanisation and manual handling aids)

  • Anatomy: how the lumber spine works and how it can be damaged

  • Principles of safe lifting

  • Suggested safe lifting techniques.

Training is typically run as a 3 to 4 hour session including both theory and hands on practical sessions using loads that are normally found in your own workplace. This course can also be accredited by the 'Chartered Institute of Environmental Health' for a small additional charge. This will enable your staff to obtain the nationally recognised CIEH "Principles of Manual Handling Certificate".

In house courses

These are normally run in groups of up to 12 people, for 3-4 hours. This enables two sessions to be run in a day. However, the course can be tailored to your needs. For example, if you have a higher risk group, it might be preferable to have a 1 day course with increased emphasis on hands-on practical sessions and a greater insight into how to risk assess a manual handling operation.

Cost: a typical 1 day training session (either 1 group for the day, or two half day groups) would be £700. If CIEH certification is required, this would be an additional £9 per person.

Thus, to train 24 members of staff the cost would be just £38.17 per person.(2 groups of 12 in a day, total cost of £916 + VAT)
